Rooted in Community Since the ’70s
Hollywood’s Original Thai Joint began inside a gritty motel in the 1970s. Sapp Coffee Shop was one of the first local spots to embrace alternative culture and the LGBTQ community, creating a space that was welcoming to all. That spirit of openness and acceptance has remained part of our identity for decades—it's a big reason why we’ve stood the test of time in the heart of Hollywood.
From Coffee & Eggs To Thai Street Food Classics
Our story began with an unusual deal: rent a tiny diner space in a motel, serve American breakfasts and drip coffee by day—and Thai food by night. That little compromise sparked something special. While we started with eggs and toast, Sapp quickly earned its name for bold, flavorful Thai dishes. Before long, we became a local institution, blending comfort and tradition on every plate.
Real Thai Flavor, True to Its Roots
Sapp Coffee Shop is loved for its rich, traditional Thai dishes served in a no-frills space. Highlights include the boat noodle soup—layered with spice, beef, offal, and pork skin—and jade noodles topped with BBQ pork, duck, and crab. Known for its savory, slightly sour flavors, Sapp stays true to authentic Thai cooking, earning long-standing praise for its quality and character.
